NexxRad Teleradiology Partners' online Digital Requisition System is intuitive, allowing for a user-friendly environment, shallow learning curve and smooth transition.

The nexus of NexxRad Teleradiology Partners' DICOM technology platform is the McKesson Horizon Medical Imaging - Picture Archiving and Communications System (HMI PACS). This teleradiology solution is based on technology developed by McKesson's Medical Imaging Group, a recognized industry pioneer and market leader in customer satisfaction.

As an image management solution, it enables NexxRad Teleradiology Partners to acquire, distribute and archive medical images and diagnostic reports across the enterprise. The Horizon Medical Imaging PACS streamlines NexxRad Teleradiology Partners' workflow and improves our radiologists' efficiency.

NexxRad Teleradiology Partners' HMI PACS is an extremely robust PACS system. It consists of two redundant database servers and four image servers that accept incoming DICOM traffic. This configuration provides failover capability and ensures high availability. NexxRad Teleradiology Partners utilizes an EMC NAS to bring our total image storage capacity to approximately 15TB, allowing us to rapidly respond to any Quality Assurance concerns or requests.

The recommended image transfer workflow is based upon a LAN-to-LAN VPN tunnel created between the client and NexxRad Teleradiology Partners. Generally, this utilizes existing VPN equipment at the client site. Once VPN connectivity is established, the client can send information to NexxRad Teleradiology Partners using any device that supports DICOM. The image transfer workflow is customized to the clients needs. Generally, the studies will be sent from the PACS, the modality, or both.

Like all of our teleradiology solutions, NexxRad Teleradiology Partners' DRS is proprietary, easy to use, and requires minimal training. The DRS is accessed by a secure, 128-bit SSL website. The DRS also has online Management Reporting access, allowing users to view the requisition status and the completed report online anytime after the order is created.

Completed reports are returned to the originating facility by fax, HL7 or through verbal communication, and they are always available online. The advantage of accessing your reports online or receiving a fax is that the system can be setup very quickly, whereas HL7 has a much longer implementation and testing process, but has the advantage of seamless integration into the client's workflow.

Where information technology is concerned, NexxRad Teleradiology Partners' top priority is information security and sustainability. We utilize a number of different resources and technologies in our teleradiology solutions to ensure HIPAA compliance and to prevent any interruptions in our services. Our IT infrastructure is built from the ground up with flexibility and redundancy as the foundation. NexxRad Teleradiology Partners maintains an uptime greater than 99.9%.


In addition, NexxRad Teleradiology Partners utilizes multiple reading sites in Southern California from which radiologists, customer service staff and administrative staff can work in the event of an outage. This geographic distribution allows us great flexibility when mitigating local technical problems with our teleradiology solutions, such a power outages, poor Internet connectivity or equipment failure. It also ensures continuity - in the rare event that one or two offices are offline, the network remains intact.

NexxRad Teleradiology Partners' server equipment is housed in a state-of-the art data center. It is a fully equipped, Tier One facility including:

  • 24x7 Network Operations Center
  • Fully redundant HVAC and power
  • Onsite backup-power generation and UPS
  • Water detection and FM200 fire suppression
  • Escort-only security.

The network backbone is redundant gigabit fiber and utilizes multi-homed Internet carriers. It provides burstable bandwidth and 24-hour network and system monitoring. All DICOM and HL7 traffic is secured by VPN connectivity. NexxRad Teleradiology Partners uses all Cisco VPN devices.
